RFM - continued

You now have a stripped-down bodyshell, ready for the conversion overlay. This has since been stripped, using Superstrip (available from Fox Models and others)

The conversion kit, from Hurst Models, comes as two brass overlays. Cut them carefully apart and clamp to your converted bodyshell.

The first step is to use them as a template to remove excess plastic in the original bodyshell, so that the apertures match those on the brass overlay. Ensure that the overlay lines up exactly on the coach sides at all points.

Using a combination of mini drill and files, cut away any black plastic that's visible through the brass frames, taking care not to damage the brass overlay, which will form the new body of your coach. You should then be left with a side that looks a bit like this,

It then occurred to me (duh!) that the new glazing needs to fit behind the overlay, sandwiched between the original body, so it might be a better idea to cut away a lot more of the original body so that the glazing can be more easily fitted after painting.
